Body Combat! How I love thee!! So much so, that I’m considering TEACHING it. Yes, me the most un-athletic person wants to spread the joy of punching and kicking till you drop. Before you go ‘Ooh that sounds violent!, let me clarify Les Mills Body Combat is a non-contact exercise program. So, the chance of getting beaten to a pulp is fairly low.
Body Combat is a martial art based exercise that fuses movements from Karate, Tae Kwan Do, Kung Fu, kickboxing, Muay Thai and Tai Chi. Each session lasts about an hour and it is choreographed to 10 tracks of the latest music. Sculpt the legs through the mazes of kicks and shuffles. Condition your upper body through a variety of punches, hand and elbow strikes and defensive moves. Most importantly, don’t forget bring your aggression to class and let it loose with each movement. HAIIIYAH!!!!
Sounds intimidating? Don’t worry, you don’t need to know any of these martial arts to start learning. What is particularly good about it is that you don’t have to be very coordinated as there are only a limited number of punches and to master. All of which are easy to learn.
What’s more, instructors always suggest alternative moves for those with niggling injuries or who are inexperienced. Don’t be afraid to make yourself know to them, they are always willing to help out the new recruits with the basics. As you get more experienced, you can put more power into the moves and improve your technique.
The reason why I’m so in love with Combat is that, it beats spending an hour on the treadmill. I find that I have a better, harder workout going to a class than when I’m left to my own devices. A special shout out must be made to the instructors I’ve come to known! Always with a smile, full of enthusiasm and encouragement, they made the experience a great one.
I’ve been going for Combat classes 4 times a week and I’ve never get tired or bored because the classes are always evolving. It is also good for the soul too. It lets you vent out your frustrations by imagining your beating the crap of your boss or significant other! Before you know, you will be hooked, lined and sinker.
At the end of class, instructors will end with Combat’s mantra, ‘Stay with the fight!’ at this rate, I’m keeping up with it for a very long time.
