Admittedly, the truth is we give our attention during times of sudden moral panic (such as the revolution in Egypt & Tunisia) where praises be to the Lord of the worlds, we pray that our fellow Muslim friends over there will be able to forge a better future under a just and compassionate ruler who has the civilians’ interest at heart. We at MODDS hope that the military rule will be a temporal one and that proper elections will be set in motion to address the needs of the Egyptian people asap.
At the same time, let’s not forget about our fellow Palestinian brothers and sisters who have spent years, decades, lifetime even living under an oppressed and unjust system where they are constantly marginalized at the expense of their livelihood and well-being. With the momentous change occurring in Egypt right now, the team at MODDS hope and pray that Egypt will consider its relations with Israel by trying to reconciliate peace treaties and not only that, acknowledge the people of Palestine who have been reduced to refugees in what used to be their homeland and acknowledge the fact that the Palestinians have been forcefully deterritorialized. Furthermore, for the Arabs living in Israel, give them the rights they have as citizens rather than perpetuating and reproducing social inequalities through ethnic divisions and hatred that run deep.
In this blessed month, as we get to know more about His Messenger Rasulullah (may peace be upon him), let us also remember that we are one ummah, and we stand unite against such social injustice, intolerance and discrimination.
If we feel helpless about such situations, the first thing we can do is to educate ourselves and know/read more about the current turmoil and horrendous situation in Gaza and the rest of the Middle East as well as even in other Muslim populated countries in Asia and the rest of the world.
